Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Monday called on PML-N supremo and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed important matters, especially political cooperation and collaboration ahead of the general elections.
“Both Maulana Fazl and Nawaz discussed the possibility of potential alliance,” said the insiders while seeking anonymity.
The meeting took place at PML-N Central Secretariat in Model Town. PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders were also present there. As Maulana Fazl reached the secretariat Nawaz Sharif came out to receive him and the both were seen embracing each other.
They said that the both leaders also discussed preparations for the fast approaching elections during their meeting besides seat adjustment ahead of the elections.
The sources claimed that the matter of forming committees to oversee election-related issues in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also came under discussion.
The meeting lasted for around an hour. This development aligned with the official announcement from the Election Commission of Pakistan, which has set the date for the general elections on February 8, 2024.
Earlier in the day, Nawaz Sharif chaired a parliamentary board meeting dedicated to preparations for the 2024 general elections. He actively engaged in interviewing potential candidates aspiring to contest elections in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal districts.
