Naveed Ahmed Sheikh, Member Incharge of the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat Regional Office Karachi, made a surprise visit to Karachi Cantt Railway Station to ensure better facilities and cleanliness for passengers. Accompanying him was Associate Advisor RiazMemon. During the visit, Naveed Ahmed Sheikh inspected various areas, including the platform, waiting rooms, and reservation counters.

He interacted with passengers to understand their issues and found the overall cleanliness and management lacking. DS Railways Muhammad NasirKhalili explained that the station faces a shortage of sanitary staff and issues with waste disposal, as trains frequently leave behind trash. However, he assured that alternative arrangements are being made to improve the situation. Naveed Ahmed Sheikh also discovered that walk-through gates and scanners installed for security were non-functional.

He mentioned that the Ombudsman Secretariat would send observations and recommendations to the relevant ministry for corrective actions. He urged the public to dispose of their trash in designated bins and not litter the tracks or platforms. Muhammad NasirKhalili informed the media that Pakistan Railways is providing drinking water and other facilities to passengers, although rain has caused delays in train schedules.

He stated that security measures, including 19 installed cameras and railway police vigilance, are in place, but the extensive open spaces make complete monitoring challenging. Additional CCTV cameras and new walk-through gates and scanners are being procured to enhance security
