ISLAMABAD – The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified the procedure for changing the date of birth on a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), including for citizens living abroad.
The clarification was given in response to a query from a woman in Lahore regarding her brother, who had travelled to Italy through an illegal route and wanted to change the date of birth recorded on his CNIC.
According to NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shabahat Ali, the date of birth recorded on a CNIC is based on the date mentioned on the applicant’s birth certificate.
How to change date of birth on CNIC
The NADRA official said that a person, whether he/she lives abroad, seeking a date of birth correction on their CNIC must first contact the relevant Union Council office.
If the Union Council approves the request and changes the date of birth on the birth certificate, NADRA can then process the corresponding change on the CNIC.
LThis means that applicants cannot directly change the date of birth on their CNIC without first having the relevant birth certificate amended by the Union Council, according to the clarification provided by the NADRA official.
Pakistanis in Italy can apply through PakID
NADRA also clarified that a Pakistani citizen living in Italy does not necessarily have to return to Pakistan to submit the CNIC modification request.
Once the date of birth has been changed on the birth certificate by the relevant Union Council, the applicant can use the PakID app while staying in Italy to apply for the change in the date of birth recorded on the CNIC.
