MUZAFFARGARH – The death toll from a tragic accident involving a loader rickshaw carrying wedding guests in Muzaffargarh’s Kot Addu tehsil has risen to 12, the local rescue officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The rescue officials said that the women and children are among the victims.
The accident occurred two days ago when a loader rickshaw carrying members of a wedding party fell into a canal in Kot Addu.
Rescue teams immediately launched an operation following the incident and have continued their efforts to locate those who remain missing.
Officials said six children are still missing after the rickshaw plunged into the canal. The missing children are reportedly between three and 14 years old.
Rescue personnel have been searching the canal and surrounding areas in an effort to trace the missing children. Authorities said the operation would continue until all those reported missing are located.
The tragedy has caused grief among the families of the wedding party, turning what was supposed to be a joyful occasion into a devastating incident.
Rescue officials confirmed that the 12 people who died in the accident included women and children. The recovery operation has remained focused on locating the six missing children and bringing them back to their families.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers for four of the victims have already been offered in their native area. The bodies were taken back to the victims’ hometowns, where relatives and local residents gathered to attend the funeral rites.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with transporting passengers in vehicles that may not be designed or adequately equipped for carrying large numbers of people.
No official statement was made by the relevant authorities as they have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances that led to the loader rickshaw falling into the canal or whether any safety violations contributed to the accident.
The rescue teams are still searching the operation to find the missing children.
