LAHORE – Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen has torn up a legal notice sent by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), rejecting its warnings and vowing not to stay silent.
In a video message posted on social media, Ali Tareen revealed that the PSL management had issued him a legal notice demanding that he withdraw his critical remarks and issue an apology. The notice also warned of termination of the franchise agreement and blacklisting.
“I will not remain silent in the face of threats,” Tareen said. “If you think I will be intimidated into silence, you’re mistaken. I love PSL — it belongs to the whole of Pakistan. I’m ready to sit down and resolve issues, but no one has reached out to me. No one has even called or emailed to understand my concerns.”
Earlier, PCB had issued a notice to Multan Sultans for allegedly violating the franchise agreement and running a campaign that harmed the reputation of PSL.
The board warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response could result in contract termination and blacklisting of the franchise owners.
Responding to the PCB notice, the franchise expressed disappointment, saying that Ali Tareen’s statements were made in the best interest of PSL.
It added that he had made significant contributions to cricket and youth development through Multan Sultans, including the establishment of academies.
The franchise further stated that Ali Tareen had invested billions of rupees in Multan Sultans and personally suffered a loss of around Rs7 billion.
It said treating constructive criticism as a crime reflects the weakness of PSL management, adding that the administration appeared unwilling to listen to questions or be held accountable.
