LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Sumaira, have been declared innocent by an investigation team in a case related to harassment and death threats to actress Momina Iqbal.
During proceedings at a Lahore sessions court, the investigating officer informed the court that Saqib Chadhar and his wife had been found innocent at this stage of the investigation. The officer also told the court that their arrests were not required.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had earlier changed the investigation and formed a joint investigation team to conduct a fresh inquiry into the case. Following the findings presented by the investigating officer, Saqib Chadhar withdrew his interim bail application.
The court subsequently disposed of the bail applications filed by Saqib Chadhar and his wife on the basis of their withdrawal.
Momina Iqbal appeared before the court during the hearing along with her lawyer, Adnan Ehsan. Her counsel raised objections to the investigation report and questioned the process through which the accused were cleared.
The actress’s lawyer argued that the NCCIA had changed the investigation without taking the complainant into confidence. He further claimed that the new investigating officer had cleared the suspects without conducting a complete investigation.
The lawyer requested the court to examine the investigation process and the decision to declare the accused innocent.
The case had been registered by the NCCIA on the complaint of Momina Iqbal over allegations of harassment and threats to her life against Saqib Chadhar.
