KARACHI – The exhumation of young businessman Mir Raza began in Karachi on Saturday as a medical board started the process of collecting samples from his remains for further examination.
Members of the medical board, Mir Raza’s family and their lawyer Jibran Nasir are present at the Society Cemetery, where the procedure is being carried out. The police surgeon, head of the identification project and a magistrate are also present at the site.
A heavy police contingent has been deployed around the cemetery, with strict security arrangements in place to ensure the procedure is conducted without disruption.
The officials said members of the medical board would collect different samples from the grave, including DNA material from Mir Raza’s remains.
The board has also decided to collect DNA samples from Mir Raza’s father and mother for comparison and identification purposes.
The authorities said different parts of the deceased’s remains would be examined as part of the investigation.
The members of the medical board will conduct their examinations independently and submit their findings.
The exhumation is being conducted in connection with the investigation into Mir Raza’s death. His family has maintained that he was murdered and has sought a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The latest development comes after a dispute over the composition of the medical board.
Mir Raza’s family had earlier rejected a five-member medical board, following which the government restored the previous medical board to oversee the exhumation and related forensic examination.
The samples collected during the procedure are expected to assist investigators and medical experts in determining important facts related to the case.
