LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering further changes to the national cricket setup, with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson likely to be given responsibility for the Test side as well.
The development comes after changes to the Test captaincy and following Pakistan’s 194-run defeat to England in the Lord’s Test.
Hesson had initially travelled to London with High Performance Director Aaqib Javed to attend a dinner hosted in honour of Prince Charles. However, reports now suggest that the PCB has asked him to become involved in the affairs of the Test team.
According to the preliminary information, Hesson is expected to join the Test squad for the third and final match of the series, scheduled to begin at Edgbaston in Birmingham on September 9. He is also likely to be present in the dressing room during the match.
The move could put the future of red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed under serious pressure.
Sources indicate that the PCB may eventually entrust Hesson with coaching responsibilities across all three formats, following his existing role with the ODI and T20I teams.
Sarfaraz could reportedly be removed from his position as Test head coach after the conclusion of Pakistan’s ongoing tour of England.
