ISLAMABAD – The Foreign Office on Thursday rejected reports that a man arrested in the US state of Delaware was a Pakistani national, clarifying that the suspect is an Afghan citizen.
In an official statement, the FO spokesperson said the individual identified as Luqman Khan, who was taken into custody in Delaware, “is not a Pakistani but an Afghan national.”
Earlier, the US media had reported that 25-year-old Luqman Khan was arrested on the night of November 24.
According to US media, police stopped a truck at Canby Park West, where Luqman was present.
Police alleged that he refused to step out of the vehicle when ordered and resisted arrest, after which he was taken into custody.
The reports further stated, quoting police sources, that investigators recovered a pistol, magazines, and documents related to an alleged attack plan from the truck.
The documents reportedly included a sketch of the University of Delaware Police Station, markings of its entry and exit points, and the name of a police officer.
The FBI also raided Luqman Khan’s residence on November 25—one day after his arrest—and recovered additional sophisticated weapons.
US authorities had earlier claimed that Luqman Khan was a Pakistani-origin US citizen and a student at the University of Delaware, alleging that he had planned an attack on the university’s police department.
