The Lahore High Court (LHC), on a petition by various faculty members of the University of Okara (UO), has directed the Governor Punjab to review the matter of the academic restructuring of the university and submit response within four weeks.
The faculty members of the University of Okara are protesting over the ‘misuse of authority’ by the acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Javaid Akhtar. The faculty members appealed to the LHC against the VC’s decision of extensive overhauling of the academic infrastructure of the UO.
According to the petition, the acting VC overstepped his authority to hold the meeting of the Academic Council and misused his authority as Chairman of AC to restructure the academic departments, reducing the number of departments from 56 to 23.
