KARACHI — Petrol in Pakistan remained at Rs265.45 per litre for the first half of October 2025, while diesel sold for Rs278.44 per litre.
As prices of petrolum products may seem stable, the real shock comes from the staggering taxes tacked onto every litre of fuel.
Petrol Price in Pakistan
| Product | Per Litre |
|---|---|
| Super | 265.45 |
| Diesel | 278.44 |
Rs95 of every litre of petrol goes straight to government coffers, roughly one-third of its total price. Consumers are shelling out Rs15 in customs duty, Rs78.02 in petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 in a climate support levy per litre.
| Fuel Type | Customs Duty | Levy | Climate Levy) | Total Taxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 15.00 | 78.02 | 2.50 | 95.52 |
| Diesel | 15.84 | 77.01 | 2.50 | 95.35 |
Diesel is no exception, carrying Rs15.84 in customs duty, Rs77.01 in petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 for climate support.
This tax burden hits households at a time when inflation is already crushing monthly budgets, leaving citizens outraged at how much of their hard-earned money is siphoned off before they even fill up their tanks.
Global Oil Rates
Meanwhile, global oil prices are showing a slight dip. Oversupply concerns pushed Brent crude down by 60 cents, or 0.9%, to $64.56 per barrel by 10:07 GMT on Wednesday, after a 1.7% rise on Tuesday.
US West Texas Intermediate crude fell 62 cents, or around 1%, to $60.42 per barrel, following a 1.5% gain in the previous session. Market watchers note that expectations for increased oil demand after the U.S. government shutdown played a role in softening the fall.
