LAHORE – Lahore’s largest public hospital made headlines after the arrest of its Medical Superintendent by the Anti-Corruption Establishment, and it brought fresh attention to allegations of viral cash-exchange video and the reported disappearance of medical stents worth millions of rupees, raising serious questions about governance at the historic healthcare institution.
On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) held Mayo Hospital MS Dr. Abdul Mudabbir Rehan into custody after he allegedly failed to appear before an inquiry committee investigating serious corruption allegations linked to one of Punjab’s largest public healthcare facilities.
The probe was initiated following a complaint filed by Dr. Ahmad Kamal. The inquiry gained momentum after a video allegedly showing suspicious financial dealings at Mayo Hospital surfaced, prompting authorities to launch a formal investigation.
Officials said Dr. Rehan had been served with a notice directing him to appear before investigators. However, after he allegedly did not comply with the summons, ACE officials detained him to facilitate the ongoing inquiry.

The case intensified after CCTV footage, purportedly recorded inside the Medical Superintendent’s office, went viral on social media. Investigators are examining claims that the footage captures a hospital vendor allegedly handing over cash to an employee working under the Medical Superintendent while Dr. Abdul Mudabbir Rehan was reportedly present in the office.
The authenticity and evidentiary value of the footage are currently being verified through forensic examination.
Alongside the alleged cash transaction, investigators are probing the reported disappearance of hospital stents worth millions of rupees from Mayo Hospital. Authorities are examining whether the missing medical devices and the alleged exchange of cash are part of a broader pattern of financial irregularities within the institution.
Officials have not yet confirmed any direct connection between the two matters, stating that the investigation is still underway.
ACE said forensic experts are analyzing the viral video while investigators continue collecting documentary and digital evidence. Authorities say additional legal action will be taken if the inquiry substantiates the allegations.
