Lahore Police Seek Safety Checks Of School Vans Buses

Lahore Police have sought special inspections of school vans, buses and coasters with immediate action against unsafe vehicles.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has sent a letter to the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, calling for special inspections of school transport to ensure children’s safety.

The letter recommends immediate action against unsafe school transport. The CTO has directed authorities to check the fitness certificates and route permits of school vans, buses and coasters.

According to Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the fuel systems, LPG cylinders and electrical wiring of school transport should also be thoroughly inspected.

Legal action will be taken against the use of illegal or substandard LPG cylinders in school vehicles.

The CTO has also recommended making motor vehicle examiners responsible for conducting fitness inspections of school transport. For this purpose, the formation of joint teams comprising officials from the Transport Department, motor vehicle examiners and traffic police has been proposed.

CTO Lahore said nothing is more important than the lives of children. He added that unsafe vehicles would not be allowed to operate for children’s pick-and-drop services.
