LAHORE – The Lahore Traffic Police has announced a crackdown on one-wheelers, particularly those promoting the dangerous stunt on social media.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed said that individuals uploading one-wheeling videos online will now face registration of FIRs under a zero-tolerance policy.
Dr. Waheed stated that the Traffic Police’s Cyber Patrolling Wing is maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of social media platforms to identify violators. Referring to a recent incident, he said that an FIR has already been registered against a boy, a girl, and their group after their one-wheeling video went viral.
He said the campaign is being carried out on the directives of Inspector General (IG) Punjab, who has ordered strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against the life-threatening practice.
Calling one-wheeling a “game of death,” the CTO lamented that the act has claimed several young lives and brought lifelong grief to families. He urged parents and teachers to play an active role in discouraging youth from engaging in such perilous activities.
Dr. Waheed further said that the Education Wing of Lahore Traffic Police is conducting awareness campaigns in educational institutions to highlight the risks associated with one-wheeling.
The CTO also warned social media users against promoting or sharing such videos for publicity, cautioning that legal action could also be taken against them.
He reaffirmed that in line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s “Safe Punjab Vision,” the Lahore Traffic Police is performing its duties with vigilance around the clock to ensure road safety and protect citizens’ lives.
