LAHORE – Superintendent of Police of Lahore Cantt, Akhtar Nawaz, has been removed from his post with immediate effect over a matter related to a raid at the residence of Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Awan in Lahore.
IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem has issued a notification and instructed the officer to report to the Central Police Office.
Earlier this week, 11 olice officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarwar Road Police Station, have been booked and issued charge sheets over allegations of unlawfully entering the residence of Attorney General and mistreating household staff.
According to the case details, a police team led by SHO Irfan allegedly entered the attorney general’s house on July 27 after climbing over the main gate. The officials are accused of intimidating employees at the residence and damaging items outside the property during the incident.
Police officials said the team had acted on information about the possible presence of suspects at a nearby house but entered the wrong premises during the operation.
The attorney general was not present at the time and arrived after being informed about the incident. A criminal case has been registered, while departmental action has also been initiated against the officials.
The driver of the residence alleged that the police team removed the CCTV recording system and that footage of the incident was deleted before the device was returned.
Meanwhile, SHO Irfan has secured interim bail from a court.
