PESHAWAR – As students and parents awaited their return to classrooms, a new notification circulating online sparked fresh questions over school schedule, with claim that summer vacations could continue until September 1, prompting the education department to step in with clarification.
It started with fake notification claiming extension of summer vacations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and it triggered confusion among students, parents and educational institutions, prompting the Elementary and Secondary Education Department to issue an urgent clarification.
FAKE NOTIFICATION
The department categorically declared viral notification fake, warning the public not to rely on or circulate the document being shared across social media platforms. The fabricated notification claims that summer vacations in public and private educational institutions located in KP’s summer zone have been extended until August 31, 2026.
It further claims that schools will reopen on September 1, 2026, giving the impression that the government has formally approved an additional extension to the summer break. However, the Elementary and Secondary Education Department has rejected the document and advised students, parents, teachers and school administrations to disregard the announcement.
The department said official information regarding the summer vacation schedule should only be obtained through its official social media accounts and authorised communication channels. The fake document raised concerns because it carries the name of the education department, official-style formatting and other details that could make it appear genuine at first glance.
The department urged all stakeholders to verify such notifications through official sources before sharing them or making decisions based on information circulating online. The warning comes amid heightened reliance on social media for updates about school schedules, making the circulation of an apparently official but fabricated notification particularly misleading.
