LAHORE – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Saturday visited the residence of senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s son Zain Qureshi welcomed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister by presenting him with a traditional ajrak while Qureshi’s daughter Meherbano Qureshi was also present on the occasion.
Talking to the media outside Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s house, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said, “This is my Pakistan. I will go wherever I want. I do not need any justification to travel within Pakistan.”
He said he had come to Lahore to meet party colleagues and organisational members. “Our government formally wrote letters seeking permission to meet our leadership who are in jail, but we received no response. Therefore, I am visiting the homes of our detained leaders to express solidarity with them,” he added.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister said that he was neither being allowed to meet PTI founder Imran Khan nor the party’s senior leadership. He termed the treatment meted out to them as a sign of “intellectual and moral decline.”
Sohail Afridi further stated that the responsibility of holding dialogue with the government lay with the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain, while his own responsibility was to lead a street movement. “I will carry out this responsibility with full force,” he said.
