The Kind Edward Medical University (KEMU) organised a seminar walk to raise awareness about diabetes in connection with World Diabetes Day 2021 here.
The seminar was themed: “Access to Diabetes care if not now, When.” The walk and seminar were led by KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal and Prof Bilquis Shabbir Chairperson Department of Medicine KEMU while Prof Mahmood Ali Malik was the chief guest.
Seminar comprised panel discussion by a galaxy of experts. Prof Dr Imran Hassan, FJMU, Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir, Prof Dr Saira Afzal, Prof Dr Sajid Abaidullah, Prof Zahid Kamal, Prof Adil Iqbal, Prof Dr Haroon Hamid, Prof Nazish Imran, Prof Ahmed Uzair Qureshi Dr Khadija Waheed, Dr Uzma Malik and Dr Fawad Ahmad Randhawa participated in the panel discussion. On the occasion, Prof Mehmood Ali Malik talked about the basics of Diabetes, types of diabetes.
He mentioned the cause of rapidly rising trend of diabetes is due to the a lack of physical activity and changing dietary pattern of population. VC Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted the importance of awareness about prevention.
and multisystem involvement and effects of diabetes. He told about the importance and role of Telemedicine in diabetes advocacy and management.
Prof Bilquis Shabbir talked about the burden of diabetes in Pakistan as everyone 1 in 4 adults in Pakistan is having diabetes. She mentioned the lack of access to treatment despite 100 years of insulin discovery.
