KARACHI – All public and private schools in Karachi will remain closed on Friday (tomorrow) amid heavy rain forecast in coastal regions of Sindh, Karachi Commissioner announced.

The school holiday was announced by DC after huddle with Met Office and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) as the port city is expecting rain up to 200mm due to cyclone storm.

Friday School Holiday in Karachi

As students in Karachi get long weekend after Friday holiday, it would not be the moment to hangout or enjoy cool weather as local administration warned citizens to limit their movement.

With downpours, provincial authorities have declared a rain emergency and introduced stringent safety measures.

In extreme weather conditions, deputy commissioners (DCs) got powers to declare school holidays in their districts based on ongoing weather conditions.

Karachi Cyclone Update

The provincial authorities in Sindh are on their toes as a deep depression over Rann of Kutch, India, has moved slowly towards the west-southwest and is now located about 270 km east/southeast of provincial capital Karachi.

As per PMD report, the system is expected to enter northeast Arabian Sea near Sindh coast by tomorrow morning and may intensify into a Cyclonic Storm.

The storm will cause rain and thunderstorms, with very heavy rainfall expected in several districts of Sindh, including Karachi. During this time, sea conditions will be rough, with strong winds. Met Office, NDMA and other departments are closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates as needed.
