NEW DELHI – Bollywood actor and BJP lawmaker Kangana Ranaut has sparked fresh controversy with her remarks linking India’s Gen Z to “sewers,” days after she described the younger generation as the “gutter generation.”
RanautKangana was responding to protests in New Delhi by the student group Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over an alleged paper leak.
Following the demonstrations, she had described Gen Z as the “gutter generation,” drawing criticism from social media users and several prominent figures from the entertainment industry.
Amid the backlash, Ranaut later appeared to soften her stance, praising the younger generation and saying she was pleased that young people were aware and understood issues around them.
However, she has now reignited the controversy with another statement targeting the same group.
Speaking to the media, Ranaut said that if people described themselves as “cockroaches,” then linking cockroaches with sewers was a natural association.
“If someone calls themselves a cockroach, and we say cockroaches come out of sewers, what is wrong with that?” she said.
Ranaut further argued that she would reject such a description if it were applied to her personally.
“I don’t consider myself a cockroach. If someone says I live in a sewer, I would deny it. But if someone claims to be a cockroach themselves, naturally they would live in a sewer—where else would they live?” she said.
Her latest remarks have once again drawn attention online, with the comments likely to fuel further debate over her earlier criticism of India’s Gen Z.
