ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan has formed high-level Joint Investigation Team to investigate malicious social media campaigns against the Election Commission and bring those responsible to book.

Following the slanderous campaigns on social media targeting ECP and other government officials, the interim government made Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for detailed probe.

The government took action in the wake of concerns over misinformation and efforts to manipulate public opinion through misleading tactics. The interim setup however pledged to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure fair polls.

Kakar-led government said malicious campaigns hamper democratic process through deceitful means.

Investigators have been tasked to probe sides of nefarious activities, including the peddling of propaganda on online platforms, the printing of fake ballot papers, and propaganda aimed at influencing public sentiment.

The interim govt officials mentioned that there were efforts to influence government officers through a malicious campaign. Such behavior will not be accepted, and those responsible will be punished promptly and decisively, officials said.
