JI condemns police torture over PTI workers: Siraj

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sirajul Haq has condemned police brutal crackdown and torture over political activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Lahore and termed it the sheer violation of democratic principles, state laws and the Constitution.

In his statement he said, “The constitution of Pakistan grants every political party to hold peaceful gathering, processions and rallies as basic right of every citizen and it cannot be denied under any circumstances.”

He said the government should restrain from such undemocratic tactics against political workers and PTI should also be allowed to conduct its election campaign and peaceful rallies.

He said his party had always upheld the supremacy of the Constitution wanted general elections should be held in the country soon and people should be given a chance to elect their own representatives in fair, free and transparent manners.
