Italy has announced that it will host a new round of talks between Israel and Lebanon next week under the United States mediation.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a post on X that Italy was pleased to host the negotiations, which will continue under the US mediation.
According to a spokesperson for Italy’s Foreign Ministry, the ambassador-level talks will begin on July 15 and continue for two days.
This will be the sixth round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon since the spring of this year. The two countries have no diplomatic relations and remain, legally, in a state of war.
Last month, Lebanon and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding under U.S. mediation aimed at paving the way toward “lasting peace.”
The agreement came five days after a fragile ceasefire took effect between the Israeli military and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. The latest hostilities began after Israel and the United States entered into a war with Iran.
