Islamabad shivers at 0°C as freezing weather persists in Pakistan

Islamabad continued to shiver at 0°C as freezing weather persisted in most parts of Pakistan on Monday.

Amid cold conditions, moderate to dense fog continued to blanket the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Monday evening and night, as well as on Tuesday. Freezing weather is expected in hilly areas.

Partly cloudy weather is expected in the upper parts with chances of light rain/light snow in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining areas. Frost will likely occur in Islamabad, the Potohar region and Kashmir. Moderate to dense fog will likely persist in the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C and 01°C on Tuesday and between 0°C and 02°C on Wednesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03°C and 05°C on Tuesday and between 04°C and 06°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, mainly cold and dry weather persisted in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in hilly areas. Frost occurred in parts of Kashmir. Moderate to dense fog/smog persisted in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

Skardu remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 13°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Leh and Astore was recorded at -11°C, in Gupis at -09°C, in Gilgit at -08°C, in Kalat and Kalam at -06°C, in Hunza at -05°C, and in Parachinar at -04°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0°C (Freezing point). Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 92 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 04°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 85 per cent.
