Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan Weather: Intermittent rain likely

Rains of varying intensities are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over the western and upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely strengthen tonight and persist in the upper parts till January 01.

Under these conditions, cloudy and cold weather conditions are likely to prevail over most parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night. Isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is likely in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad and the Potohar region. Moderate to dense fog (in patches) is likely to persist over plain areas of northeast/south Punjab.

On Wednesday and Thursday, rain with snowfall over the hills is likely in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad and Punjab. Fog (in patches) is likely to persist over plain areas of northeast/south Punjab and upper Sindh. Cold and cloudy weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Wednesday and Thursday, and between 04°C and 06°C on Friday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 08°C and 10°C on Wednesday and Thursday, and between 07°C and 09°C on Friday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country, and cloudy in upper and western areas during the last 24 hours. Rain and snowfall over the mountain occurred at a few places in northwestern Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moderate to dense fog prevailed in Punjab.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 08°C below the freezing point. The minimum temperature in Gupis was recorded at -04°C, in Bagrote, Skardu and Parachinar at -02°C, and in Kalat at -01°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 59 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 09°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 54 per cent.
