Widespread monsoon rains, accompanied by isolated heavy downpours, are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several parts of Pakistan from Tuesday night through Thursday, with intermittent breaks.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents are penetrating the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave is also influencing the upper regions.
Weather Forecast
Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Pothohar region, upper Punjab, Kashmir, upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday.
Some areas may receive heavy rainfall during the forecast period.
Possible Impacts
Heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.
Flash flooding is also possible in local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
The PMD warned that landslides could occur in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Temperatures
Daytime temperatures in Islamabad are expected to range between 31°C and 33°C on Wednesday and 32°C to 34°C on Thursday.
In Rawalpindi, temperatures are forecast to remain between 30°C and 32°C on Wednesday and 31°C to 33°C on Thursday.
Weather Recorded on Monday
During the previous 24 hours, widespread rain, strong winds and thunderstorms affected Islamabad and the Pothohar region, while isolated rainfall was recorded in northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan and Kashmir.
Heavy rainfall was also reported at isolated locations. The highest rainfall totals included 82mm in Mangla and 77mm in Attock.
Islamabad received 71mm at Bokra, while Rawalpindi recorded 118mm at Shamsabad, 81mm at Pirwidhai and 68mm each at Gawalmandi and New Kattarian.
Other notable rainfall totals included 35mm in Gujranwala, 31mm in Sialkot City, 18mm in Gujrat, 13mm each in Jhelum and Narowal, 10mm at Lahore Airport and 10mm in Murree. Malam Jabba received 6mm, Zhob 6mm, Parachinar 4mm and Muzaffarabad City 2mm.
Islamabad recorded a maximum temperature of 32°C, with evening humidity at 79%, while Rawalpindi reached 31°C with 70% evening humidity.
