ISLAMABAD – Islamabad Deputy Inspector General of Police Ali Waseem has ordered legal action against individuals accused of filing false rape cases and witnesses allegedly giving false statements to secure the acquittal of accused persons in exchange for large sums of money.
Under the Anti-Rape Act, police have directed the registration of cases against complainants and witnesses involved in seven cases, according to the police official.
Waseem said those who level false allegations of rape to pursue personal interests or misuse the law would face legal proceedings.
He said the move aimed to discourage the misuse of legal provisions and ensure the delivery of justice.
The DIG stressed that providing justice to genuine victims and protecting the rights of citizens, particularly women, remained among Islamabad Police’s top priorities.
