Intermittent rains of varying intensities are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan during the weekend.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a western disturbance will enter Balochistan on December 19, which will grip the upper parts of the country on December 20.
Under the influence of this weather system, intermittent rains of varying intensities are expected in the twin cities and the western and upper parts of Pakistan during the weekend. Snowfall is expected over the hills during the period.
Wet conditions will cause a decrease in the mercury levels during the daytime. Moderate to dense fog/smog is likely to persist over Punjab, Upper Sindh and the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Snowfall may cause road closures, slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli.
There is a possibility of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the period.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Friday, between 06°C and 08°C on Saturday, and between 07°C and 09°C on Sunday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 09°C and 11°C on Friday, between 10°C and 12°C on Saturday, and between 11°C and 13°C on Sunday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Moderate to dense fog/smog persisted in Punjab, Upper Sindh and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Leh and Gupis remained the coldest places in the country, where the temperature dropped 03°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Bagrote and Skardu was recorded at -02°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 87 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 10°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 71 per cent.
