Islamabad is hosting a spectacular Rock Climbing Championship 2026, organized jointly by the Alpine Club of Pakistan and the Interprovincial Coordination Division, attracting talented young athletes from across the country.
Competitors from Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and all provinces of Pakistan participated, showcasing remarkable skill, strength, and determination.
The championship aims to promote rock climbing and mountaineering while encouraging self-confidence, endurance, and a spirit of challenge among youth.
Major General (R) Irfan, Chairman of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, emphasized plans to create more opportunities for talented young athletes. Secretary IPC Division, Mohi-ud-Din Wani, described the event as a significant step toward promoting adventure sports and empowering youth in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, in a recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Defense, the Defense Secretary highlighted Pakistan’s significant natural resources, noting that out of the world’s 100 tallest mountains, 62 are located in Pakistan. Despite this, only 15,000 tourists visit the country annually for hiking, compared to 1.5 million in Nepal.
During the briefing, the Secretary also announced that Prime Minister has approved the outsourcing of Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad airports. While these airports are profitable, service standards have not met expectations. Following outsourcing, specialized private firms—domestic or international—will manage operations, with leadership roles reserved for Pakistani professionals.
