TEHRAN – Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Major General Ahmad Vahidi has said the deaths of Iranian civilians in US military strikes will not go unanswered, warning that those responsible will eventually be held accountable.
The local Iranian media reported that Vahidi strongly condemned a reported US missile strike on a wedding ceremony in southern Iran, saying the alleged attack on civilians, including women and children, demonstrated what he described as the hostile nature of US actions.
Vahidi said attacks of this nature would not weaken the Iranian people’s resolve or deter them from continuing to resist pressure.
He maintained that the Iranian population would remain steadfast despite the difficult circumstances and would respond to external pressure with greater determination rather than surrendering to it.
The reports said several people were killed and others wounded after a wedding gathering in southern Iran was allegedly hit by a missile. The reported incident has triggered anger and grief in Iranian circles, while officials have strongly condemned what they described as an attack on civilians.
The United States, however, maintains that its military operations have targeted Iranian military facilities and other strategic military objectives.
The US officials have rejected allegations that American forces deliberately targeted the civilians.
Vahidi said Iran would not ignore civilian casualties resulting from the ongoing military operations. He added that the Iranian people would not forget those killed and that the country remained determined to respond to actions directed against it.
The reported strike has further highlighted the concerns over civilian safety amid escalating military tensions and hostilities in the region.
The relevant authorities have yet to confirm the details surrounding the incident, including the exact number of casualties and the circumstances of the reported strike.
