Iran has delivered its reply to a United States proposal aimed at bringing the Middle East conflict to an end through Pakistani mediation, Iranian state media reported on Sunday.
According to IRNA, the latest round of discussions will concentrate mainly on efforts to stop the war.
Pakistan has also confirmed receiving the Iranian response to the US proposal. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he has been briefed that Iran has submitted its response to the US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
Addressing an event in Islamabad marking Marka-e-Haq, he said that he was informed by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir about the receipt of Iran’s reply, adding that he could not share further details at this stage.
The PM also underscored Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue, noting that for the first time since 1979, the US and Iran had been brought to the negotiating table through diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan. He said the development reflects Pakistan’s engagement in supporting regional stability through dialogue and mediation.
The development comes just days before US President Donald Trump is expected to visit China, a major buyer of Iranian oil with significant strategic interests in the region. US officials have indicated that the matter could still be resolved through direct communication, although it remains unclear whether another round of negotiations will take place.
The situation carries major implications for Pakistan as well, where the economy is already under pressure from soaring fuel prices that are driving up the cost of everyday consumer goods.
Pakistan maintains close ties with Iran while also enjoying favourable relations with the Trump administration, placing Islamabad in a potentially important mediating role.
Observers say the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough cannot be ruled out, with the coming days expected to be crucial as attention turns to how the US responds to Iran’s latest response to its peace proposal.
