Iran has said it could reopen Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States accepts its conditions, shortening the timeframe from an earlier proposal of one week.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said the revised timeline demonstrated Iran’s willingness to pursue diplomacy in good faith.
He stated that meeting Iran’s demands could pave the way for restoring security in the vital shipping route and resuming negotiations with the US in the near future.
Baqaei said Iran’s seven-point proposal remained the foundation for diplomatic engagement with the US, adding that the plan could potentially be implemented in the coming days.
He also confirmed that communication between Iran and the US was ongoing, while Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi had travelled to Doha to help facilitate the process.
The spokesperson, however, said Iran was not anticipating a change in US policy or a shift in Washington’s approach following the midterm elections.
