ISLAMABAD – Iranian authorities claim that nomadic tribes and the Bakhtiari tribe from the province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad targeted two US Black Hawk helicopters in remote, hard-to-reach mountainous terrain.
According to a statement from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the attack was carried out by local tribal groups who live in the area and Iranian armed forces were not present at the site. The tribes involved are known for living in isolated mountain areas where they raise sheep and goats and often carry firearms to protect their camps and livestock from wild animals and theft.
A video circulated online that appears to show three armed men firing toward at least two Black Hawk helicopters flying overhead.
It was reported that one helicopter was hit by small-arms fire, leaving several crew members injured, though the aircraft managed to land safely. The helicopter was reportedly transporting a rescued pilot from an F-15E fighter jet, adding another layer of drama to the situation.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran are escalating sharply. U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran, saying the country has “48 hours” to reach a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil shipping route.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to either reach a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz. Now the time is running out. 48 hours remain — after that, all hell will break loose on them.”
This warning follows Trump’s earlier announcement on March 27 that the United States would delay any potential attack on Iranian energy facilities for ten days.
The situation now places the region on edge as the 48-hour deadline looms, with the possibility of a major confrontation between the US and Iran hanging in the balance.
