THERE is good news for our cricket fans as the Sri Lankan
cricket authorities on Thursday said they will go ahead with their scheduled tour of Pakistan during which the Sri Lankan team will play three one day and three T-20 internationals.
This will be the first one day internationals to take place in Pakistan since Zimbabwe toured for a three match one-day series in 2015. Over the last few years, some international players have also visited Pakistan to play the PSL games but this Sri Lankan tour is very important to build the image of the country as a safe and secure country. As Pakistan Army will coordinate the security of Sri Lankan players, we are confident that the series will go ahead smoothly without any untoward incident. For the Sri Lankans definitely, it will not be easy to wipe away the memories of 2009 terror attack on their team in Lahore but this time around they must be rest assured that the country’s overall security situation stands much improved as the back of terrorists has been broken and Pakistan is as safe as their homeland itself. Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani and his team really deserve appreciation for putting in great effort to convince the Sri Lankans to visit Pakistan and making headway in restoring the international cricket in the country. This will provide an opportunity to the cricket frenzy nation to see their star players in action in the domestic grounds. We are confident that successful holding of this series will go a long way in bringing other teams to Pakistan as well. It is also responsibility of global cricket fraternity to fully support the PCB’s efforts in this regard as it will be the triumph of the game and help further promote and flourish cricket.
