KARACHI – Key mourning procession for 9th of Muharram is underway in Karachi from Nishtar Park and is going toward Hussainiya Iraniyan Imambargah in Kharadar while mobile phone service remain party suspended in several areas.
Authorities made special arrangement in Karachi, and parts of the region to ensure public safety during Muharram observance. Mobile phone services have been suspended in several cities as a precautionary step, and sensitive areas have been sealed off to prevent any unfortunate incident.
Amid stern security measures, mobile services, internet connectivity also started to deteriorate in different areas of the metroplis, causing further inconvenience to residents.
The communication disruption also dented rescue and coordination efforts in Lyari, where a five-story residential building collapsed and death toll from the disaster has now risen to 16.
Emergency response teams are facing challenges in reaching affected areas due to the mobile signal outage, hampering timely relief and coordination.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security protocols as the city observes the sacred days of Muharram. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar also reviewed security arrangements for Muharram processions at various points in Karachi. He was accompanied by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Senator Waqar Mehdi, and Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon. The minister directed law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security and maintain close coordination with procession organizers.
Top admin of provincial admin also met with coordinators of the central procession to discuss precautionary measures and ensure smooth proceedings.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and have urged citizens to cooperate with security forces as Ashura approaches.
