India has been using all kinds of brutal tactics to suppress the Kashmiris even since it illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on October 27 in 1947. According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian troops are perpetrating the worst human rights violations – in fact war crimes and crimes against humanity – to punish the Kashmiri people for challenging India’s illegal occupation of their homeland. Killings, extrajudicial executions, arrests, torture, use of brute force and rape of women by Indian forces’ personnel have become the order of the day in the occupied territory.

India has imposed draconian laws including Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Disturbed Areas Act (DAA), Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to suppress the Kashmiris’ demand of UN-recognized right to self-determination.

Recently, in a heart-wrenching incident in Srinagar, a scooty was hit by a vehicle of the Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The incident took the life of Parveen Bibi, a mother of two young boys. The accident, which occurred in Raj Bagh area on June 17, 2023, resulted in Parveen Bibi’s untimely death and left her younger son injured. Many such incidents have occurred in the occupied territory during the last over seven decades but justice has not been provided to the victims.—KMS
