ISLAMABAD – Indus Treaty Violation become bone of contention between nuclear armed Pakistan and India and now Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry issued a stern warning to New Delhi over potential violations of Indus Waters Treaty.

In his latest interview with Al Jazeera, Pak Army’s media wing chief said Pakistan’s armed forces delivered a decisive and unforgettable response to Indian aggression. “The military strategy we adopted during the recent confrontation will be studied for decades,” he said. He added that Pakistan Army successfully thwarted India’s strategic objectives in the recent conflict. “We downed six Indian aircraft and forced their troops to wave white flags at multiple border locations. Our response was not covert or cowardly; we declared it and executed it openly and precisely.”

He emphasized that Pakistan did not initiate aggression but responded with discipline and precision. “We didn’t fabricate stories. Unlike India, we told the truth. Their narratives were filled with lies — from fake images to fabricated claims of nuclear incidents and attacks on religious sites.”

Calling out Indian media and political culture, General Chaudhry stated, “India’s overconfidence is based on false assumptions. They believed Pakistan would not retaliate, that they could strike civilian targets with impunity. Now they are crafting baseless stories to save face.”

He dismissed Indian claims of attacks on the Karachi port and Golden Temple as “absurd and laughable,” reaffirming Pakistan’s deep respect for all religious sites and its cultural ties with the Sikh community.

Indus Waters Treaty: A Red Line for Pakistan

In a strong message, Lt Sharif warned that only insane person would think of blocking water flow to Pakistan of 240 million people. “If India breaches the treaty, they must remember Kashmir is a disputed territory. If Kashmir joins Pakistan in the future, all six rivers will legally and morally belong to Pakistan.”

Signed in 1960 with World Bank mediation, the treaty divided the six rivers of the Indus basin between the two countries — three to each. General Chaudhry warned that any Indian deviation from the agreement would carry grave consequences.

On the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, General Chaudhry called it “genocide and a dark stain on human conscience,” drawing parallels with the oppression of Muslims and minorities in India, especially in Kashmir. “Nations must remain strong and self-reliant in a world where political ideologies can enable or even justify such atrocities,” he asserted. He further lamented India’s internal policies towards Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and lower castes, suggesting that such systemic oppression leads to inevitable backlash — one which the Indian government refuses to acknowledge.
