In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders have deplored that India is killing innocent Kashmiris for demanding their UN-mandated right to self-determination.
APHC leaders, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Khawaja Firdous and Abdul Samad Inqilabi, in their statements issued in Srinagar paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres. Hundreds of innocent people were martyred by Indian troops in these areas in the incidents of mass killings in the month of January in 1990s.
The APHC leaders said that the Kashmiri martyrs’ sacrifices, which have centre-staged the Kashmir dispute at the global level, would not be allowed to go waste. They also expressed concern over the criminal silence maintained by the international community on the Indian brutalities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Posters appeared in Srinagar and other areas of the occupied territory paying homage to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Kupwara and other massacres. The posters, displayed by Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement and Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to accomplish the mission of their martyrs at all costs.
Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government has intensified the ongoing eviction campaign in all districts of IIOJK to grab the land of Kashmiris, particularly Muslims, which has been in their possession for generations. The occupation authorities are snatching the Kashmiris’ land in the name of a so-called anti-encroachment drive. Thousands of kanals of land has been snatched from the locals so far.
People held protest demonstrations in Jammu and other areas against the eviction drive by the occupation authorities. The members of District Development Council, Ramban, unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the authorities’ eviction order. The President of Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, talking to media persons in Srinagar said any law of the country is for the welfare of the citizens but in Kashmir after 2019 so many laws have been brought and are being used like arms against the people. National Conference Vice President, Omar Abdulla, in a statement in Srinagar said the eviction campaign is aimed at harassing the people and diverting attention from the main issues as the authorities have failed to improve the situation on the ground.
The experts who are keeping a close eye on the situation in IIOJK say that through such measures the Indian government is systematically paving the way for settler colonialism in the territory. They say that after snatching land from the Kashmiris, New Delhi is giving the same to Indian people, and also building housing colonies for its serving and retired army personnel on this land. The observers believe that Narendra Modi’s ultimate aim is to efface Muslim identity and impose Hindu civilization in IIOJK.—KMS
