ISLAMABAD – Imran Khan remained behind Adiala Jail, but now, a claim regarding prison conditions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan sparked fresh political speculation, with journalist Hamad Hassan claiming that the jailed PTI founder has been moved from his barrack at Adiala Jail to the residence of the prison superintendent.
According to journo, Imran Khan allegedly moved to small bungalow or house located within the Adiala Jail premises. The residence is reportedly normally used by the jail superintendent. The claim, however, has not been independently verified by Pakistan Observer.

Journalist Hamad Hassan claimed that Imran Khan is no longer staying in the barrack where he had spent the past roughly two-and-a-half to three years in custody. Hassan said his information indicated that the PTI founder was shifted around a month earlier, on August 2, to a small house-like residence inside the prison compound.
The journalist suggested that the move has provided Imran Khan with a relatively more comfortable environment and improved facilities while remaining within prison premises.
Hassan acknowledged that Imran Khan’s previous barrack was not particularly small, but stressed that “a jail is still a jail.” He argued that being moved into a proper house represents a noticeable change in the conditions of his confinement.
Hassan further claimed, citing his sources, that Imran Khan is not alone at the new residence. He said his wife, Bushra Bibi, is also staying there with him, or has at least been granted full access to the residence.
If confirmed, the reported arrangement would represent a significant change from the conventional barrack-style accommodation associated with Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
The reported change in Imran Khan’s accommodation has also fueled speculation about possible political developments behind the scenes.
Hamad Hassan pointed toward recent contacts involving Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Sohail Afridi, suggesting that the interactions may have produced some results.
He also referred to important Supreme Court decisions and other developments that have taken place during the same period, suggesting that their impact may now be visible in the form of the reported relaxation in Imran Khan’s prison conditions. However, Hassan cautioned against interpreting the development as evidence of an immediate “drastic change” in Pakistan’s political landscape.
Imran Khan has remained incarcerated at Adiala Jail for a prolonged period in connection with multiple cases. Since his imprisonment, his living arrangements, security and access to facilities have remained politically sensitive issues.
PTI repeatedly alleged that its founder has been denied basic rights and adequate facilities, while the issue of improved or B-class facilities for former prime ministers under prison rules has also remained part of the broader debate.
Despite intense tensions between the government and PTI, reports of backchannel contacts have continued to circulate in recent months. The alleged involvement of senior government and PTI figures has therefore added another layer to speculation surrounding the reported change in Imran Khan’s accommodation.
Still, the development should not automatically be interpreted as a sign that Imran Khan is about to be released or that a major political deal has been reached.
