The Islamabad High Court on Monday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notification to change the tribunal and reinstated Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri as the judge of the Election Tribunal of Islamabad.

Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq heard the case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidates challenging the Election (Amendment) Ordinance 2024.

During the hearing, Justice Aamir Farooq issued a show cause notice to the elected Member of National Assembly Anjum Aqeel Khan from NA 41 Islamabad of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N.

Chief Justice Aamir Farooq asked the Additional Attorney General how he would defend the ordinance. The Attorney General replied that after the Election (Amendment) Ordinance, the Bill came to Parliament.

Chief Justice Amir Farooq remarked that you should abolish the ordinance, it will be seen when the bill is passed. He asked what was hurry that the President issued the ordinance overnight, this method is wrong, otherwise abolish the Parliament. Additionally, the Chief Justice remarked that there was an ordinance factory in Wah and another ordinance factory was established by you.
