LOS ANGELES – Renowned Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles residence on Thursday, prompting a police investigation into a possible double homicide.
The Los Angeles police said that the law enforcement officials responded to a medical aid request around 3:30 pm on December 14, where they discovered the 78-year-old Rob Reiner and 68-year-old Michelle Reiner deceased. Preliminary investigations indicate that both suffered stab wounds, law enforcement sources told the Associated Press.
Rob Reiner, a New York native, was also known for his political activism. He participated in advertisements opposing George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential election and supported Democratic candidates including John Kerry, Al Gore and Hillary Clinton.
The couple married in 1989 and had three children. From his previous marriage to acclaimed actress and director Penny Marshall (1971–1981), Rob Reiner adopted her daughter, Tracey Reiner.
Rob Reiner directed several iconic Hollywood films, including When Harry Met Sally and This Is Spinal Tap. He also appeared in the 1970s CBS comedy series All in the Family and directed other popular films such as The Princess Bride and Stand by Me.
The authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
