The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread intermittent rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across Peshawar and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Monday night through the next two days.
Heavy to very heavy downpours are also expected in isolated areas during the forecast period.
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are moving into the upper parts of Pakistan and are expected to intensify from Monday night. A westerly weather system is also likely to influence the upper and central regions of the country during the same period.
The weather department said rain and gusty winds are likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan and Hangu. Some locations may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The PMD warned that intense rainfall could trigger landslides in mountainous districts, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Flash flooding is also possible in local streams, while urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Peshawar during heavy downpours.
The department further cautioned that strong winds, lightning and heavy rain could damage vulnerable infrastructure such as solar panels, electricity poles and roadside billboards.
In Peshawar, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 40°C and 42°C on Tuesday before dropping slightly to 37°C to 39°C on Wednesday.
During the last 24 hours, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms was reported in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The highest rainfall totals included Balakot (57 mm), Kakul (56 mm), Malam Jabba (54 mm), Upper Dir (11 mm), Lower Dir (3 mm), Saidu Sharif (3 mm) and Cherat (1 mm).
Peshawar recorded a maximum temperature of 35°C, while evening humidity was measured at 65 per cent.
