ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Haroon Akhtar Khan as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industries and Production.
Haroon Akhtar Khan has a distinguished record of business success and public service. He has twice served as Senator and was two times elected as member of the Punjab Assembly.
From 2015 to 2018, he was SAPM Revenue, with the status of Federal Minister. As a Senator from 2006-2012, he served as a senior member of standing committees on (1) Finance, Economic Affairs, Revenue, Statistics and Planning and Development; (2) Commerce; (3) Industries and Production; (4) Petroleum, Natural Resources and Minerals and (5) Sports, Culture and Tourism.
Haroon has a Master of Science in Actuarial Science and Business Administration from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (USA) and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
The president also approved the appointment of high court judges after a long delay.
The approval of the summaries for appointment of judges comes a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) expressed displeasure of the delay and sought reports from the federal government and the Ministry of Law by Tuesday on the status of approval of the long-pending summary for the judges’ appointment.
The president approved the appointment of additional judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC), Sindh High Court (SHC), Peshawar High Court (PHC), Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC).
The president also approved the confirmation of certain additional judges of SHC and LHC as permanent judges.
In another decision, President Zardari approved measures to bring the salaries, allowances and pensions of Supreme Court judges in line with those of judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
He also approved amendments to the 1997 order concerning leave, pensions and other benefits for high court judges.
