LAHORE – A powerful burst of heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorm swept through parts of Lahore after dark clouds suddenly engulfed the city at 4:30pm, dramatically breaking days of intense heat and triggering fast-changing weather conditions across multiple areas.

The storm hit with little warning, as thunder and lightning lit up the sky and strong winds lashed different neighborhoods, bringing brief but intense relief from the sweltering temperatures that had gripped the city.

Key areas including Mall Road, Jail Road, and Gulberg were among the worst affected, receiving heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds. The sudden shift turned the atmosphere noticeably cooler, with residents experiencing a sharp drop in temperature after days of heatwave-like conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather system responsible for the rain is relatively weak and short-lived. Officials say the cloud activity is expected to clear soon, after which hot and dry conditions are likely to return once again.

Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has moved quickly to respond to the situation. On the instructions of its Managing Director, operational teams have been deployed and kept in the field to ensure immediate drainage of rainwater from affected areas and prevent any water accumulation or urban flooding issues.

As the storm system begins to weaken, authorities remain on alert, while citizens brace for the likely return of intense heat in the coming hours or days.

Weather Update

Most districts across the province are expected to remain under hot and dry weather conditions, according to the latest meteorological outlook. The heat is likely to persist in the coming period, keeping daytime temperatures elevated across much of the region.

However, partly cloudy weather may develop in several hilly and upper areas, including Murree, the Galiyat region, the Pothohar Plateau, as well as parts of southern districts.

Forecasters also warn that isolated areas such as Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kot Addu, Sheikhupura, Lahore, and surrounding regions may experience dust-raising winds and occasional thunderstorms at scattered locations.

PMD said continental air continues to dominate most parts of the country, keeping conditions largely dry and warm. Meanwhile, a shallow westerly trough is affecting northern areas, contributing to slight weather variation in those regions.

Authorities advise residents to remain cautious during dust storms and sudden wind activity, especially in exposed areas.
