ISLAMABAD – A consortium comprising Habib-ZKB-EA JV emerged as the successful bidder for the construction of a new cricket stadium in Islamabad, marking another step forward for the proposed sports infrastructure project.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has opened the financial bid for the construction of what is being dubbed as the country’s largest cricket stadium.
The consortium emerged as the successful bidder by submitting a bid of Rs8.90 billion for the construction of the stadium and associated external works.
The contract will be formally awarded after the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) reviews the submitted rates and confirms that the bid is reasonable. The CDA said all legal and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) procedures were completed before the financial bid was opened.
Officials said construction is expected to begin after the completion of the approval process, with efforts aimed at completing the project within one year.
The new cricket stadium will be built near Sector D-12, at the foothills of the Margalla Hills. It is planned to have a seating capacity of 35,000 spectators and will be designed in a style inspired by Dubai’s cricket stadium.
The project also includes the construction of three kilometres of three-lane roads and other supporting infrastructure around the venue.
The CDA said the project is receiving special attention from the federal interior minister, the CDA chairman, and the authority’s member for environment.
According to officials, the Habib-led consortium has previous experience in the construction and renovation of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Before the contract is finalized, the consultant will complete its assessment of the financial proposal to determine the reasonableness of the quoted rates.
