ISLAMABAD – The federal government on Friday officially halted all operations of the Utility Stores Corporation across the country.
The sale and purchase of goods at these outlets came to an end.
The official directives said that all food items and essential commodities have been removed from the utility stores and transferred to warehouses. The move marks a complete shutdown of the corporation’s retail functions nationwide.
Moreover, the Utility Stores Corporation’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system has also been deactivated as of today (Friday).
In a notification issued by the corporation, it was clearly stated that any transactions made through the ERP system after July 31 would be considered unauthorized and would face strict legal action.
The decision to suspend operations raised many questions about the government’s future strategy for subsidized goods distribution and its impact on low-income households that rely heavily on Utility Stores for affordable essentials.
