QUETTA – Balochistan government has declared a week-long holiday for schools and other educational institutions due to heavy rains that wreaked havoc.

Following the heavy rains, schools in Balochistan will remain closed for a week due to the devastation caused by widespread rains in Gwadar, Chaman, and other regions.

A notification shared by interim government said educational institutions will remain closed for week due to inclement weather conditions.

Massive rainfall in Gwadar, Kech, and other districts, along with other areas disrupted normal life and traffic on Coastal Highway.

Met Office predicted the arrival of westerly wave in southwestern regions, and even declared a state of emergency in affected areas and called in paramilitary forces to assist in rescue and relief efforts.

Port city Gwadar and adjoining area saw 160mm of rainfall in a day, leading to flooding in residential and commercial areas and rendering roads impassable.

More rains, heavy snowfall likely in Murree, other tourist points in Pakistan
