ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced plans to make the motorway police corruption-free within one month.
The minister made the announcement during a video-linked meeting with representatives of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, where issues including axle-load regulations, SROs, motorway-related problems and other concerns of the transport sector were discussed.
He directed the Inspector General of Motorways to take strict action against officials involved in bribery and corruption.
Aleem Khan said legitimate demands of goods transporters would be addressed promptly, while issues faced by Mazda operators and ten-wheelers would also be dealt with on a priority basis.
He said the axle-load policy would be implemented immediately and no overloaded vehicle would be allowed on motorways. He also welcomed transporters’ support for the policy.
The minister directed the Motorway Police chief to ensure that no official involved in bribery or corruption remained in service. He said corrupt personnel would face not only dismissal but also criminal cases.
Aleem Khan urged goods transporters to avoid extreme measures and consider the national interest. He also invited transport representatives to Islamabad on Monday for further discussions.
