WASHINGTON – A striking installation resembling a golden throne with an integrated toilet has been set up on the National Mall in Washington as a satirical critique of renovations carried out under US President Donald Trump.
Designed to mimic marble and gold, the display features a toilet in place of a traditional seat and includes a plaque reading “A Throne Fit for a King.”
Another inscription on the structure offers a tongue-in-cheek message, referencing Trump’s renovation projects at the White House, particularly the redesign of the Lincoln bathroom, portraying it as a symbolic tribute to his priorities.
The installation appears amid Trump’s broader efforts since returning to office last year to remodel parts of the White House and other federal spaces. Reported changes include extensive decorative enhancements in the Oval Office, refurbishment of the Lincoln Bedroom bathroom, demolition of part of the East Wing to construct a ballroom, and plans to redevelop the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
A White House spokesperson defended the president’s initiatives, stating that he has been working to enhance the appearance of the White House and the nation’s capital. The spokesperson added that Trump remains committed to delivering on the promises for which he was elected.
The satirical structure also includes additional elements, such as a toilet paper roll labeled with a name linked to a group that has previously claimed responsibility for similar protest installations.
The group had earlier been associated with another artwork depicting Trump alongside financier Jeffrey Epstein, though it has not been independently reached for comment.
The National Park Service, which oversees the National Mall, has not issued an immediate response regarding the installation.
