Get Ready For New Petrol Price Every Day Under Latest Pricing Mechanism

ISLAMABAD – For years, Pakistanis waited for fuel prices to change every fortnight, then every week during US-Iran war. Now, another major shift comes as the government announced new system where petrol prices are revised every single day, a move that could reshape how millions of motorists, businesses, and households plan their budgets.

Addressing a joint press conference, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik confirmed that the new pricing system has been approved in response to growing volatility in international oil markets.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has been entrusted with fixing petrol and diesel prices in line with movements in the global oil market.

Under the new mechanism, the benchmark for daily fuel prices will be based on the seven-day average of international oil prices, replacing the previous pricing formula.

The shift is another major change in Pakistan’s fuel pricing mechanism. The federal government had already moved away from revising prices every 15 days in favor of more frequent adjustments. If approved, daily pricing would represent the most significant reform yet, allowing domestic fuel prices to respond almost immediately to changes in global crude oil markets.

The proposed policy change comes as consumers brace for another steep increase in fuel prices. With international crude oil prices climbing amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan is expected to announce a fresh hike in petroleum prices effective July 18.

Adding to the developments, the government has revised export duties on petroleum products, with the new rates taking effect from July 16.

The export duty on diesel has been increased from Rs8.5 to Rs15.5 per litre, while the duty on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has risen from Rs7.5 to Rs14.5 per litre. In contrast, the export duty on petrol has been reduced from Rs4 to Rs2.5 per litre in a move aimed at facilitating exporters.

Pakistan’s fuel prices are currently determined after reviewing international crude oil prices, refinery margins, taxes, and petroleum levies. While reports suggest the government is preparing to introduce daily price revisions, the proposed mechanism and the anticipated increase in fuel prices have not yet been officially confirmed.
